Well the great Joy of Tights what kind of a man are you poll is over. Many thanks the 61 guys who voted.
Out on top, so to speak, were legs with
36 out of 61 votes or 59% of votes. This was a bit of a surprise - as my experience of tights men is that they are also feet men.
Research indicates feet are about the biggest turn-on imaginable. In order to estimate the relative frequency of fetishes, researchers at the University of Bologna examined 381 internet discussions of fetish groups, in which at least 5,000 people had been participating. Researchers estimated the prevalence of different fetishes based on the following elements:
(a) the number of discussion groups devoted to a particular fetish
(b) the number of individuals participating in the groups; and
(c) the number of messages exchanged.
It was concluded that the most common fetishes were for body parts or for objects usually associated with body parts (33% and 30% respectively). Among those people preferring body parts, feet and toes were preferred by the greatest number, with 47% of those sampled preferring them. Among those people (mostly males) preferring objects related to body parts, footwear (shoes, boots, etc.) was most preferred (64%).
So to do the Math
- 33% x 47% = 16% of men like feet
- 30% x 64% = 19% of men like shoes (but not, apparently, shoe shops, sorry girls)
More direct evidence goes in the same direction. A 2007 study published in the International Journal of Impotence Research found that feet (and their little piggies) were the most highly fetishized body part, with nearly half of the thousands of survey respondents choosing them over all others (and that includes tits and butts!)
Why? No one is entirely sure. There are those who believe that feet and genitals are closely connected in brain circuitry. Others suggest it may simply be that feet lead to legs, and legs lead to genitals.
Some researchers have hypothesized that foot fetishism increases as a response to epidemics of sexually transmitted diseases. In one study, conducted by Dr. A James Giannini at Ohio State University an increased interest in feet as sexual objects was observed during the great gonorrhea epidemic of twelfth century Europe, and the syphilis epidemics of the 16th and 19th centuries in Europe. In the same study, the frequency of foot-fetish depictions in pornographic literature was measured over a 30 year interval. An exponential increase was noted during the period of the current AIDS epidemic. In these cases, sexual foot play was viewed as a safe-sex alternative.

Well I suppose feet are attached to legs. Perhaps these guys like feet, but like to see feet in the context of the whole leg. Maybe it was the way I asked the question. If you meet a woman at a pub or at work, it is usually difficult to look at her feet first because they are in shoes. And of course all this may just be an artifact of my very small sample size.
I did find one writer (in Essence) who reckons legs are the tops. Having asked this question - "What do to find most sexy" to over 1,000 men in the last 3 years, she has come up with her top 13. Number 1 appears to be legs. This writer goes on to say
"You’ve heard of a “breast man” and “butt man” types, but there is a third type of man out there, and he ain’t playin’. Meet the “lower limb lover” aka the “leg man.” When I recently polled a few hundred men on Twitter, “legs” was by far the number one sexy thing about a woman."
