Its official: pantyhose and open-toe shoes - it rocks

Q: Which of these girls is committing a crime against fashion?
Neither. A proper fashion website Fashion Bomb Daily says that tights with open toe shoes is good.

Apparently Bomb reader Cherise wrote in recently with a burning question. She said, “What’s the rule on pantyhose and open-toe shoes?”

The answer came back from blog writer Claire "Rock it".  What is more 73% of responders in a poll ran by blog ran thought pantyhose with open toe shoes are okay.  And that's a real poll of 473 readers.

Claire thinks wearing black or sheer stockings (I presume she means tights are OK too given the original question) with peep or open toes is totally fine. Claire says:

"Traditionally it’s a no-no and closed toes are preferred, but what else are you going to do with your open toed booties or suede peep toes in the winter?"
I so agree.  Why should cool, sexy and stylish open toe shoes only be for summer?

Yous sandals are OK after all girls.  (Nice gladiators BTW)
Claire goes on to say:
"If you’re very self conscious about wearing colored tights with open toes, then wear a sheer or nude colored stocking to give off the illusion of a bare leg.  Just make sure your pantyhose are as close to your skin tone as possible (so nothing looks off)."
Do I hear another fashion shibboleth come crashing down.  Nude (and perhaps even American Tan tights) are alright after all?

Close enough match to skin tone?

There was one telling comment by a blog reader:

.... “ordinary” women have been doing this for years and have been ridiculed, being called tacky and so forth. I just think it is funny that as soon as someone famous wears it, it is okay. Oh well, welcome to America. That is why I just say, “do your own thing.”
Too true.

Not everyone is convinced though:

"NO! Beauty is pain, ..... Endure the chill because this is eww."
Beauty is pain - otherwise we'd never where heels.  But Beauty isn't stupid amounts of pain - that's she we slip out of our heels and go in our stocking feet when we think no one is looking (or at least no one who wouldn't like the site of our tights covered toes- wink).  But who says bare legs and tootsies in winter are beauty.  White, goose pimpled and shivering?  Open shoes, no tights, in winter that's fashion fundamentalism.

Compare and contrast.  Lumpy white bare legs or smooth sexy nylon clad legs
Just in case you wanted to check those legs out close up.  Love the chunky sandals!
And some will only so far in rehabilitating tights with sandals

" I have always read that stockings are perfectly fine as long as they are NOT reinforced toe." and "I wouldn’t with strappy sandals, only peep toe pumps"
Near skin tone hose with strappy sandals.  What's not too like?
Well in strappy sandals you want to show off your feet, and tights give your feet a smoother outline.  I have some sympathy will the no RHT line.  But sometimes reinforced toes blend into the shoe nicely or they draw attention to the feet shouting "don't miss my shoes".
